I took my little camera with video to document my run, and I pieced together a ten minute video of it, which I have posted on Google Video. Please watch it!
matt here, i watched the video at central station after a fire yesterday. sharon watched it with me today at my brother's house. the end was funny. you offered to drive home after a marathon?
the race video was honest and interesting. i hope to run a marathon as well. i'm trying to get a job that will have me running 3-8 miles a day. five is the most i have run at once.
we enjoyed the Christmas letter. as cliche as this is, everyone is growing up so quickly. every reminder of trinity seems distant. it's hard to believe alden is four now. we remember him being born.
My son Owen and I found this while on a motorcycle excursion a day after the high school graduation. We also picked up a foam roller brush at the side of the road. Presumably it was also from Wal-mart.
O WELL
These kids nowadays are remarkably polite, even when breaking the law.
CHUGGING ALONG, MID RACE
I'm in the middle of the Fargo Marathon, May 2007. The peonies and the lilacs were a highlight of this early spring race.
FIDDLING WITH MY IPOD IN DOWNTOWN FARGO
I usually run with my iPod, so I didn't want to be without it on the marathon. But I kept turning it on and off, so I could pay attention to various other interesting things on the route. It looked to me like about half of the runners carried listening devices.
ME, AFTER 26.2 MILES ON PRAIRIE TOWN PAVEMENT
My wife took this about 45 minutes after the marathon. By this time, I was getting a little stiff, and a little cold too. The weather was seasonally on the chilly side, with quite a bit of wind. Fortunately, the rain stopped before the race started.
C.M. NEWMAN AT THE FARGO FINISH, 2007
C.M. Newman is one of my great inspirations. He finished in excellent time this year at Fargo, though he did not win his age division like last year. He's about 68, an amazing athlete.
Barefoot Mountain Road
Austin Smith (18) and Alden Smith (3) East end of Crag Crest Trail, Grand Mesa Colorado. Austin hiked the entire 6-mile trail with no shoes. (August 2006)
